They had the Bender museum in Cherryvale when I was a kid-dummies and all. Very creepy.

Thanks for the lore David. Former residesnts of sixteenth-century Scotland, Sawney Bean and his family were another earlier though equally creepy bunch. These close-knit (to say the least) Galloway cave-dwellers were cannibals as well as robbers.
Cheers,
Jason

I'll have to ask Steve (graduate of Baker U., btw) if he has ever been to Cherryvale. How far is that from Iola?
In Iola (Allen Co.) there is a great museum to an American hero, Major General Frederick Funston:

I've been involved in some Spanish-American War living history events at the Funston home with my reenacting unit, the 20th Kansas, which is named in honour of Funston's "Fighting 20th".

The Black Douglases were said to come down out of the hills and snatch away children that had been bad to eat them.
Oh, and I guess I should say, "Boo."
I read some place, I think it was Fark.com, that Rob Zombie wanted to make a movie out of this whole bit of folk horror from Kansas.
That would be a cool movie no doubt... Plenty of "LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!" scenes.
