I'll be posting some pics when I get back to the states, but first a trip to Segovia, Spain on Saturday to teach some more glassblowing classes for 9 days.
As to the reception of my being kilted, it's all been positive. A lot of older folk tend to strike up conversations with me. When I was at the town square in Westport yesterday, a bunch of schoolkids wanted their picture taken with me... it was all good fun. But generally, I'm just one in a crowd, nothing special.
Now, as to the proposal... My sweetie, Tink and I have known each other since I was in second grade, but we've only been a couple for about 7 years. A couple of years ago we discovered that we have a common ancestry. Not in that "uncle-daddy" kind of way, heheh, our connection dates back to the mid-1700's and the family goes back hundreds of years farther back.
Anyway, Hugh Tyrell was the first Baron of Castleknock, and built a casle there. Castleknoeck is a suburb of Dublin, and the castle ruins still remain on the grounds of a private school and one-time priory. We decided that we would try to check it out while we were here.
We find the ruins and it's phenomenal, part of an entrance tower with an arched passageway remain, along with a stone walled cemetery containing the graves of priests who lived and died at the priory.
After a few photos and a walk around the area and we're standing in the arched entryway. I turn to Tink, drop to one knee and tell her, "That I can't think of a better time, and most certainly can't think of a better place, will you be my wife?" And I presented her with the ring that my father gave to my mother many, many years ago when he proposed to her.
Well, for reasons beyond me, she said yes!

It's about time.
Next kilt night, we need to meet the lass. I'll be raising a pint of UTKWH (Under The Kilt Wee Heavy for the uninitiated) in your honor this evening. Here's to you both. int:
