When I ordered my Army tartan kilt from Alexis, I was given the choice of 13 or 16 oz. I ordered the 16 oz. because I wanted a good heavyweight kilt.

The Army is readily available like that. But, the USAF tartan is only made in 11 oz., unless you find a mill to special weave it heavier as a custom job.

And it's a mystery why Strathmore weaves it only in a weight that's too light for a man's kilt.

I haven't bought a kilt from Alexis, but have done business with her. She is nice and pleasant to do business with. I haven't received my merchandise from her yet, but she did warn me up front.

I'm all thumbs, but must admit I'm intrigued by the prospect of making my own tartan. Wonder how hard it is? I was reading about the traditional way the Scottish folded the material over their belts to form their tartans.
