Cool deal! During my few years in the Steelworkers a possible strike was the 1 thing that kept me on edge. Glad things are clear for you ... at least for awhile.

Al, I'm glad both sides could come together and hammer something out and avoid the strike. It must be a big relief to most of the drivers. My daughter's employer had arranged car pickup and dropoff for their employees in the event of a strike. Keep on rolling!

Thanks Will. It's quite complicated, I'll explain over drinks at the next kilt night.

Yes, I was a little worried, wasn't I? I'm just glad it's almost over (we vote on the deal tomorrow).

What I'd really like is either a nice X-Marks or Maple Leaf tank. Prolly won't happen this summer, but they're on the list.

I think what drove the City back to the table with a new offer late yesterday was the thousands of phone calls from angry commuters. On Monday the Mayor was quoted as saying "you'll have to come up with your own contingency plan to get around."

Just cleared the last hurdle today. The membership voted just over 69% in favor of accepting the new offer.

We get a 3% raise retroactive to July 1, 2006, another 4% on June 25th, and 5% on July 1, 2008. Not quite what we'd asked for, but it's better than nothing.

Maybe now I'll be able to sleep at night again.

I actually do have the weekend off, and the weather is gorgeous! Sadly I have to spend the first part of the day fixing the rear brakes on my Sportster, but will hopefully be up and enjoying the nice weather shortly.
