Hey Mark, don't get defensive. I'm not knocking what your selling, I'm gathering the same information I would need and ask of anyone before buying something.

I am also the owner of a business and my business is kiltmaking. In the kilt world we know and respect the fabrics our kilts are made from.

My customers are told EXACTLY how much fabric is in their kilt. I also know EXACTLY how much my fabrics weigh per linear yard. I know EXACTLY what the fabric content is. It's important to me and it's important to my customers.

People come to this forum to learn and research about their kilts. You won't find many who come here just looking for a cheap deal. If that is what they want they go to e-bay.

So I think my request was well within the spirit of this forum. You as a vendor of another persons product don't know what your fabric weighs so I asked someone who can tell me. I don't think that should not be a reason for you to be upset.

Steve, I didn't read Mark's comments as coming across as defensive. Likewise, I thought your request to BP was reasonable.

Mark, you should know the kilt police never knocks . . . that's just what they're expecting!

Wizard - I was not trying to be defensive. I was just being tongue in cheek about The Kilt Police.

I am not sure that your statement "You as a vendor of another persons product don't know what your fabric weighs so I asked someone who can tell me. I don't think that should not be a reason for you to be upset." is a fair assessment or comment.

Also your suggestion to weigh a completed kilt - with metal buckles/ leather straps/thread/ lining IS NOT going to tell you its true weight per yard is. unless you use:

Total Weight -(3 Metal buckles + 3 leather straps+Thread Used+ lining)=MTW (Material total weight)

Now tear the kilt apart and measure the material. Divide MTW by Yardage

You now have the true weight per yard..... and a really messed up kilt.

another way would be to ask a few of the folks in here that have purchased yardage to weigh it and tell you the true weight.

I don't think the lining, buckles, straps and thread is really going to have that much of an impact on the weight...

you know when you go to arby's and order a sandwich they always weigh it out on the scale.. i just had a mental picture or some fabric shop laying tartan material on a small scale.

I will take a royal stewart in 16 oz with a side of 13 oz black watch.

I'm going to refrain from any further posts on this thread. I will not get into a pissing contest with anyone here.

I actually do weigh the fabric I receive in my shop and verify that, to what is advertised.

I also know how much thread is used for a kilt, how many buttons or straps are on each kilt, and what my packaging materials weigh. That's how I keep track of the actual cost of my kilts and how I control the retail price.

I'll make you a deal. Order one of my kilts, Tell me the Measurements, Model, & options you want and I'll post here what your kilt will weigh when you receive it. If I'm off by more that 3 oz. either way I'll refund your purchase price and the kilt is yours for free.
