    Great Kilt

a friend of mine from work has been interested in getting a Great Kilt.

where might one find the best deal on an affordable Great Kilt?

side note: the guy's a former Marine and was VERY intrigued by the Marine tartan on SWK. had to add that in.

I may be wrong, but wouldn't a 6' by 6' piece of tartan fabric do the trick? You could buy that anywhere.

Make that 5 feet wide by 4-6 yards long (triple largest hip/waist measurement) tartan fabric, and your right.

Or, if you're looking for places that sell lengths of tartan specifically for great kilts, and even put in "cheater pleats" if you want them, you might try the Celtic Croft.

My very first kilt ever was a great kilt because it took little effort and it was extremely cheap. I just went down to the local fabric store and bought 4 1/2 yards of good looking plaid. It looked a lot like the blackwatch tartan. Then all you'd need to do is pleat it,tie on a belt, and pin it at the shoulder. He wouldn't have to spend more than 25 bucks.

Obviously the more money he is willing to spend the better looking he can be, but if he's just looking to have a kilt and doesn't want to spend hardly any money, this is a pretty easy way to go.

You can always look online to find out how to pleat, and belt etc.
