My present PV is 7yds and I don't find that is a problem. In fact I rather like the swing I can generate with an enthusiastic pas de basque in it.
I also have a 5yd 15oz wool but I think I'd rate the PV higher for dancing comfort; the wool is great for normal walking wear. Now that could be because the 5yd is just a bit tighter across my butt 
I am on the point of ordering a new PV casual from Geoffrey (Tailor) and have been debating the 5yd/6yd/7yd question. I did want to try something lighter. They (very diplomatically) suggested that 6yds might be the minimum I should aim for given my 43.5 inch seat. So I might well end up with another 7yd-er to get that extra swing.
