Thanks for all your comments, though I'm still not convinced. The 'Hiking' kilt is not the same as the regular Sportkilt (shown in your example photos) in that it has almost the hang of printed silk rather than a woven cloth. I shall have to think about it. The regular lightweight material I have no problem with. All my neighbours are used to seeing me in a kilt, but the Hiking one I haven't yet worn outside the front door...apart from in the remoteness of the Welsh hills. It freaks me out a bit.

"Microfibre" Hmmm .... that would explain the light feel (yep, wnet back and looked).
Best advice: don't go out in a breeze.

...However, in all fairness, this is marketed essentially as a Hiking kilt, and for that purpose it's excellent. Airy, light and in no way a hindrence when I'm strutting across the moors.

I had to go look at the picture of the hiking kilt. Not sure about the weight but it looks like a kilt. I'd wear it out in public...but I'd wear an ankle length skirt so don't listen to me!
(actually it is a cameleon It can be worn as a skirt, tucked around a turned into pants, a sleeping bag etc...)
