Anyone know of a good source for purchasing a cockade made in tartan colors?
The tartan swatch isn't really a cockade, though:

Wonder if this is suitable on a standard military royal blue beret?

I think the cockade would be appropriate on the blue beret, there are directions for making a multi colored ribbon cockade in J. Charles Thompson's great little book "So You are Going to Wear the kilt". It is available from Matt at the museum.

    Jim,

I'll have to get my hands on the book. I went ahead and ordered the clan crest and the beret this morning. Looking forward to getting it.

Is anyone else reading this thread thinking about making a rossette or cockade out of the X Marks tartan? I think I will need to order that book as well.

    Cheers

Made one on a hat I made.
Basically, it is the yellow centered portion of the blue and gray on a blue-ish tinted gray balmoral (with yellow toorie and navy-ish trim that EXACTLY matches the "ancient navy" of the X Marks tartan.

I need to get a pict up, as well as one of my X Marks tartan kilt (box pleated to the WHITE stripe). THAT should give another option for the new batch of X Marks kilts about to be created.

I make a balmoral to match/coordinate EACH of my kilts. On all the ones recently, I use some scrap from the waist band to make a "cockade." Actually, it is a patch of tartan covering multi-layered hair canvas (also scrap from the waistband of the kilt) and sewn onto the balmoral on the sides (like a "normal" cockade), so the badge can be installed JUST like a cockade.

I think I need to get my wife to take picts and put them up. I'll ask after she finishes up what she is doing (will be a NUMBER of hours).

I'd be very interested in a picture. As I would like to use an X Marks Kilt Pin on a balmoral I have ordered to go with my X marks tartan kilt, a tartan rosette or cockade would really tie them together.

    Cheers
