Ah...okey!
Yeah, there are a bunch of period nazi's in the SCA that insist that everything is period, but at least half of the SCA just wears what they think they can get away with.
Calling reenactors "period nazis" is a bit strange...not friendly either.
The whole point of historical groups is...being as historical as possible.
A bit historical and a bit "do as you please" makes no sense at all.
Calling those who try to do this right nazis is way out of line. When you bent history it becomes fantasy.
All should do what they want, but respect those who try to do something right.
My 2 cents

You think that because you haven't met a full-blown SCA period nazi. They can be very unfriendly. I haven't played SCA in almost twenty years, largely because of such people.

Yes, they are the snobs of the SCA world. They look down their noses at you and sniff when they see (usualy tiny) something that they think is not 'period'.
I agree that re-enactment should be as 'true' as possible but not everyone has the time/budget to do that. So they go with what they can. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
Back to the funny people in kilts!!!

Some folks take everything a bit too seriously...speaks more to their insecurities than anyhting else, I reckon. If you wanted to be really period I suppose that you'd have rickets, scurvy, syphillis and half of your teeth left in yore haid.
I certainly hope that we're only laughing at the "kilt don'ts" amongst ourselves and that there's a little bit of "there for the Grace of God go I" behind our laughs. Knowing X'smarksers, I expect that they would always be gentlemen and ladies and try to politely help the "don'ts" out if asked and that they would never be malicious about it. Constructive...let's be constructive...
...still...some of these jokers ARE pretty far out!
Best

My appologies I truly wasn't trying to offend, it is an actual term used by some SCA individuals to identify those that would yell at someone because their belt is black, and the black dye hadn't been invented yet for example. Anyways though, this is the Kilt Do's and Don't thread so let's get back on subject and talk subject related. --->>> Transistion --->>>
Speaking of those who are "strict" in their re-enactments, there are those with every sect of life, even kilt wearers. I know that they way I wear my kilt isn't "entirely" accurate, but i'm completely ok with that. I don't have a good kilt belt yet, and I don't have any kilt hose, so I just wear a nice belt, and black socks for now. Some might say that what i wear isn't right because i'm not representing a kilt wearer the way they think we should be, but i would disagree.
A kilt is like a pair of pants. Any accessories that i choose to wear or not wear with my kilt should be my decision. Now if i was trying to pass myself off as a true re-enacter then, by all means I should be held to much higher standards. But just for casual wear, there really shouldn't be any rules, other than ediquitte.
Just my two cents, and my attempt to put us back on track with this thread.
