These guys are at the Arizona Ren Faire every year, and I've always been impressed with their product. One of these days, I'll be able to afford to buy some for m'self.

Holy Smokes I can't recommend these guys enough.

They are custom molded to your foot and calf. Will cost you a little bit, but will least forever. One of the guys at our last kilt night in Dallas was wearing a pair he'd had for 12 years and hasn't needed them to be resoled until this year. The leather is breathable, no wearing of socks, the foot is lined. They are completely machine washable. In fact it is recommended to wash your shoes once a year.

I will be buying a pair next ren faire season. The pair I tried on was the most comfortable thing I've put on my foot.

Sorry sounds like I'm advertising for them, but really they are truly a great shoe and have been used in quite a few movies.

Medieval Moccasins are also good. Not as sturdy of a sole, but easily replaced.

I've got a pair of those that I wear with my kilt and they are quite comfy, I also wear either black combat boots or my High-Tech's.

What do you guys think of riding boots? I'm thinking of full leather dress or field English riding boots. I've always loved those for some reason and I can only assume that something that goes that far up the leg has got to offer amazing ankle support. But would it look funny?

This is the only picture I could find on his site that showed tall black boots. He offers several kinds of soles.
Just for some perspective, I have owned a pair of Sodhoppers and they are the absolute worst custom made moccs that I have owned. There is a reason they are the cheapest you can find.

It would look odd to my eye. But as I've said in other places, this is clothing, not a costume, or a uniform. If you're comfortable with how it looks, do it, and the rest of us can giggle behind our hands.
