Arson Fire at Tartan Thistle
Just got this email:
Arson Fire at Tartan Thistle
Rumor of our arson fire is quickly spreading across the Scottish community.
We want to thank all of you who have taken the time to phone, email and send letters to us expressing concern and hope for us and our recovery. We have received calls from many of you wanting to know what has happened, are things okay, and how can you help.
Yes, we had an arson fire set by a serial arsonist. Yes, The Tartan Thistle is still operating. Yes, we did lose inventory, the Whidbey Island Highland Games inventory, and the house. Yes it’s true, the insurance company has denied our claim for this arson. There are barely any words yet to explain the shock and the loss we are faced with at this point.
If you would like to read about the arson, see pictures of the aftermath or make a donation to help us rebuild, then click on this link http://www.tartanthistle.com/arsondonation
Thank you for your concern and keep those orders coming in

I an truly sorry for your loss, but I have to know, on what basis did the insurance company deny coverage? I find nothing in statute or form that excludes arson.

It's not my loss. I just posted the email. I will say, however, that insurance companies are Satan on Earth.

My uncle's car was stolen, thieves broke the window and took it. Insurance was refused because once the window was broken it was unlocked and, therefore, not covered. The insurance company, mentioning no names, State Farm, did pay for the broken window.
The Tartan Thistle story is sad all the way through.

i completely agree. they have "made love" to me on more than one occasion. one time i went as far as to get the Insurance Commissioner for the state involved in the injustice. they took my complaint seriously, then found no wrong doing on the part of Kemper Insurance... of course. ...bastards.

So sad!
How on earth can an insurance company let those people rot away?
Sickening!

Very sad news, insurance companies however are just not in business to hand out money and will therefore look for any reason to deny any claim, and yes they have as Furrycelt says "made love" to me on more than one occasion as well, I have always found my dealing with them to be unpleasant to say the least.

We are in the process of building a home back, $1.8 million. The owner hooked a battery charger to a car, started the car, and left. Pure negligence, house was under insured, but we are putting it back.
While FEMA was playing politics, the insurance companies set up claims to pay that exceeded all homeowners premiums collected by the companies since they started selling insurance in Louisiana & Mississippi.
Insurance carriers accepted all the claims at the World Trade Center even though the cause was excluded. And, the policy on the center had expired.
The department of insurance is a consumer protection agency, not an ally of the insurance companies.
Sorry you feel the way you do, but to denigrate an industry that has done so much good is unfair and unnecessary.
