Not wishing to raise any hackles but the Black Watch shop happily sells its hackles for £1.

So what some think should be earned others can buy and seemingly with the blessing of those who earned them.

Let the wearer decide, say I.

One thing that always gets me is the 'medieval re-enactors' and Ren Fair types who wear pheasant feathers in their hats - pheasants weren't introduced into Europe until the late eighteenth century

Hmmmm...so what you are saying is until present no peasant should wear pheasant no matter how pleasant.

    Cheers

Thanks for reminding me of that thread. I had forgotten about it.

Now, to get a fake/faux sprig to put behind each of my bonnets (which are color coordinated to for each kilt/tartan, bearing the appropriate insignia/badge)!

And I choose not to, for the reasons stated.

Considering I'm in Virginia, I wonder if I should pin a tobacco leaf to my hat. This is the state that contains the world-wide headquarters of Phillip-Morris!

Please, no flame wars about smoking. I'm making a joke at my home-state's expense not trying to advocate smoking.

Hey, here's an idea. We could set a hat on fire and tell people we're wearing a phoenix feather in our bonnet! .

Sorry, I'm in a very weird mood this morning. I had to be up extra early and I'm still trying to recover.

There is quite a black market of eagle feathers, tail and talons here in Canada. It seems at least once a year eagle body dumps are discovered in the bush in B.C. I guess a pot leaf would be appropriate for B.C., although I wear a sprig of evergreen.

I don't know if the feathers and whatnot are still illegal in the US but the eagle itself is no longer endangered.
