as a fellow sackbut player I know from experience we can be a rowdy lot...put 'em in kilts and there will be a whole new meaning for a slide..... Let alone always in the lead of the band

Canuck- your very right. This has been discoused very heavily with the other 2 leaders of the section. I respect my kilt and my heritage, anyone who does not respect the kilt I see as insulting to me.
now, disrespect is not wading it up on the floor at night, or not properly cleaning it. no I am talking about those who intentionally lift them. We have come up with a rule, anyone lifting, (caught by anyone not just the leaders) will be given a 10 to 15 minute Attention Drill.

for those of you who do not know, an attention drill is standing at attention holding the instrument in play position, any movement causes the time to restart. and I will be there egging the person on for the entire time.

its harsh yes, but I see the lifting problem as a seriously offensive action. it may seem funny to a teen, but I am almost ashamed when it happens. its incidents like that that bring a bad name to the kilt.

the worst offense is lifting, and then the second I would say, when marching and afilliated with the band, since this is a school function, not having an undergarment worn. were a band, and were the kilted trombones, how can we be proud if we are not dressed to our fullest?

now, I am not saying that the kilt can not be any fun at all. other than those 2 ground rules, have a good time! I will be showing them all how to sweep the pleats so the don't get wrinkled when sitting. and then I will encourage them to come up with all different responses to the question. that can be dangerous though. especially from the "marching boners" haha!

I love the kilt pin and the shirt. I would agree with what others have said you can not beat the price of the thrifty kilt. Good luck with it, and when the entire section is decked out it would make a great photo, hint, hint.

Don't have much advice on the kilts, but I'd imagine maybe the thifty's or frugal corner would be the way to go for uniformity.

Way to go for making section leader.
My fiance was in the flutes and piccolos for the University of Oregon marching band, so I have a lot of respect for you guys.

In school? Yes. I do on some occasions already.
for band functions? Yes for rehursals/practices and on every Friday of the football season we dress in our section "pride uniform". and also No for any public performance, because it is not uniform with the rest of the band.

For sporrans, you might ask the folks who print your t-shirts whether they can get inexpensive fanny-packs & print a logo on them. Or just find them somewhere. Most of the web sites for screen printing have lots of messenger bags and cinch sacks, but I haven't seen a fanny pack or belt bag.

Compared to the usual "economy sporran," I find a small fanny pack to be easier to use---as long as it doesn't clash with my kilt. My nicest one is black, teal green, and purple!

Oh yes, Sport Kilt has a black one for $12.00, but you might be able to get a better price for 2-3 dozen.
