    Kilt or something else?

Ok, I am saving up right now with my summer work.

I am wondering what your guy's thoughts are.

    Do I get:

    A Utilikilt Original

    OR

    A nice Practice Chanter

thats the question I am faced with. I will eventually have both. but I don't know which I should get first. its a difficult decision. I want to learn to play pipes bad, I also want a Utilikilt bad.

I was looking at something like this: http://www.instrumentalsavings.com/P...ood_p/bago.htm
now, if you have any suggestions, I am open. I will also be getting some tutor books to go with it.

but its a hard call and I lack direction.

Get a practice chanter. While a utilikilt would be great, its only an piece of clothing. A practice chanter will give you hours of things to do and a unique skill. A kilt doesn't fill up time. No matter how cool it is. On the other hand if you don't think you have the time to learn a new instrument, get the utilikilt.

Ditto - Get a nice Poly chanter - It will literately last a life time and you never have to worry about gaining weight and it not fitting

well, thanks a lot everyone! that certainly made that easier!

Know this isn't the right place to ask, but what is the difference between a long chanter and a regular chanter? is a long one more like what is on a pipe set?

    A practice chanter.

That looks suspiciously like the Pakistani-made chanters littering EBay...if so, an outrageous rip-off at $74.62 (it’s not worth $15).
For $61.63 US (plus shipping), you can get the COP Tutor Book, CD and practice chanter from The College of Piping in Glasgow instead of Islamabad.

    … I lack direction.
Do yourself a huge favor; GET A TUTOR!

Yes; but I find the difference negligible.

thanks guys, I haven't ever played any pipes. but I really hope to be able to some day.

I do have some ability in music. 6 years of instruction playing brass and strings.

    thanks!
