Fat Man and the Kilt at my Waist

I too am a "Man of Substance" (5' 11" 340 lbs).

Currently my only kilt is a SWK Thrifty, a great starter kilt to see if you'll like wearing a kilt. Now that I know I do, I am chomping at the bit to get one which I can wear at the "proper" height. I have found in my experiments that the kilt looks much much better when worn at the traditional level, it's just that by then it's too short for me to be comfortable with.

I would recommend that you cover your substance and enjoy a traditional kilt.

I will have to emphasize what has already been spoken here. Do NOT wear the kilt so that it's under your belly. In my opinion that would just look awful, just as it does with pants. Wearing the kilt at the traditional height makes the bigger gents look so much better.

So, unless you are extremely fond of your gut and want to display it for all to see, wear the kilt higher.

I agree with the previous, maybe we should do a poll on sizes . . .

at 5'11", 300#, I wear the kilt slightly above my belly button. As an addendum, I also wear my pants there, so take it for what its worth.

I also agree with the guys, under the belly really does look gross & a bit slobbish. At traditional level cetainly gives a much better line and look - regardless of girth. Check Mikey's two posted pics for comparison and you'll see what I mean.

I must echo the thoughts of my sizable brethren! Please don't wear it below you belly.. I'm 6'2" & 300#... It is much more slimming to wear it traditionally.

Another hint is to get a set of sporran hangers!!! That way you sporran & strap won't slide under your belly and pucker your kilt.

GROSS AND SLOBBISH?!? (sheds a tear) Perhaps a little unkempt and non-debonaire but still loveable and cuddly!!

I'm 6' 260 lbs (but hey, I'm big-boned, right?). My first kilt was a Utilikilt. It gave all the freedom I could ever want in a garment. The wife was not sold on kilts though. I conned and berated my way into a USAK, cut to wear at the natural waist... suddenly the wife started to come around. And I got a lot of people that hadn't seen me in a while asking if I'd lost weight... It was where I was wearing the kilt... It can completely change your profile for the better!
