I really don't think anyone meant to upset you, just to give their own views on kilts. You don't have to take their advice but it is offered in good spirit if you want it

I'll have to put myself in the traditionalist group of kilt wearers. I wear kilt to many different Scottish events such a highland games, participate in several kirk'ins, attend some formal events and even wear the kilt sometimes just because I want too. I only own two kilts, so the tartans I wear were chosen because of my hereditary connection to both of them. When I had these kilts made I chose to go with the traditional knife pleat pattern. That was my personal preference. There is a 16 oz Matt Newsome box pleat on my wish list.

All of us here on X marks have one thing in common, we enjoy wearing kilts. There are many different styles of kilts out there, it is up to each individual to decide which type of kilt, material and tartan best fit his life style, personal preferences and budget.

As you hang around here for a while, you will find that we we all have quite a bit in common, get along very well considering the diversity of the group, our opinions and our geographic distance from each other.

You will have the opportunity to meet some of your fellow X-markers at the highland games and other events, you will find they are all great people. This forum is definitely one of the best around. The moderators do a fantastic job of keeping all of us in line.
