Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Friday at 9:00 PM my Lady and I arrived at the Westwood Mall to get in line for the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." We were near the head of the line, to my suprise. The line got lots, lots longer as we waited, though.

Here's from where we sat to the front door:

And the people we sat with, one of Cassie's friends from work and her sister. One of the girls in the group sitting next to us asked why more men don't wear kilts. Told her I didn't know.

Sat and played cards and ate pizza till the doors opened. Oh yeah, and our car got hit. Some carfull of teenaged girls backed into our car, then when we started towards them sped off. Another girl that was there said she knew them, and then they circled around the back and got in line. We were ticked, more because they hit and ran, but since there wasn't any damage to our car (incredibly) I didn't press it any farther.

I was #27 in line, out of a couple hundred. There were a few other places in Marquette to get the book, too, so this wasn't everyone. Here's in the mall just after the doors opened at 11. There were lots of activities until 12:01.

    Me waiting in line:

    Walking out of B. Daltons:

And my Lady and I triumphant outside the mall:

I got a couple comments on the kilt, and lots of odd looks, both for that and the monocle. I normally only wear it when I'm reading, not all the time, but I decided to wear it all night. Two of the characters in the books wear them, you see... Okay, I'm not as bad as some people, but I've read the books lots.

And to close, the line about a half hour before the doors opened:

    Cheers,
    Nick

I've read them all, too. Our copy arrived in the mail, today....about 3 days earlier than expected. I won't be able to get to the book for at least two weeks, though.

    No spoilers please!

And Nick, if you had worn two monocles you would have made a spectacle of yourself!

well. I picked up the book today at 2pm, had to go out for dinner but finished reading it at 4:31am this morning.

Great ending and the last part is great

I avoided all the talk just so I would not hear what happened.

The world has gone crazy over the Harry Potter stories. Am I the only person, I wonder, who has never read any of those books nor seen any of the films? It is the same with Lord of the Rings: admittedly, I did TRY to read one of those books (still have it somewhere) but I just could not get into it - and I have not seen the films!

    Reading

    Hamish, Une, et al:

I'm glad I'm not the only one, too. I have read the Tolkein books, but am not interested in a movie version of them at all.

I think the best thing that J K Rowling has managed: Getting people (all ages) to read (more)!

BTW, I don't watch TV at all if I can help it. Just the occasional movie from DVD/tape.

I too have never read any of the books. I have taken the kids to see the movies though. A couple of them. But, Other than Harry, I couldnt tell you who the characters were.
Rowling did do an amazing job with the books though. She got millions of kids to read, and, in the end, did quite well for herself. I envy folks that can tell tales like she does.
I grew up on the Tolkien series, and was such a nut, I knew everything about both JRR Tolkien & his son, who finished his books and published stories after his fathers death. Tolkien did for me what Rowlings did for the younger generation of today; got me reading very young, and something I continue to do to this very day.
