			N.A.\US makers of kilt jackets

I am wondering, is there anyone in North America and even the US for that matter, that makes kilt jackets of any style? I have noticed that most shops online state that they are made in Scotland and other parts known and unknown. I am "strolling" through websites in search of options for an Argyle jacket and waistcoat and that thought just popped into me 'noggin'.

Take a look at the Scottish Tartans Museum web page (they're one of the sponsors here). I think they make their jackets here in the states. In North Carolina, in fact.

					J. Higgins makes their jackets and vests in the U.S. from imported cloth: "All of our tartans and woolen are imported from Scotland and are tailored here in Kansas."

Rocky's jackets are made in the UK, as are the ones offered by the Tartans Museum. Warhoover was asking about jackets made in North America.

The making of kilt jackets in America is an area that could be quite profitable for some one, I suspect, especially argyll ones for daywear. There are quite a few kiltmakers here, but few who make other Scots clothing. I would guess there is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a niche market and make it one's own.
I don't know anything about J Higgins' jackets, but have a pair of their diced hose, made from some kind of synthetic material that is not at all of the quality of woolen ones.

The Wizard of BC is thinking about adding them to the offerings of Freedom Kilts but that might be a bit in the future considering he is currently trying to move his shop, update his website, and keep up with his orders.

I wondered this same thing, and searched and found nothing, as others have noted. Hand tailored clothing is a rarity in the part of the states where I am, as the labor cost would make the retail price quite high. I got an off the peg Crail jacket not long ago (from the UK), and have been trying to find someone to alter it a bit. (I am not keen to tackle the project myself) So far I have not been successful with that, either.
I think there might be an opportunity there, but I can tell you for sure that making a living by producing goods with your own hands as an exclusive source of income is not for the faint of heart, nor the lazy, nor anyone who is not a good "self starter". You will work more hours than you EVER did for someone else, and likely for less pay. If there was an individual who was motivated, and fast, and good, then making jackets might work out ok, I do not know. I do know they are a very complicated (involved, anyway) bit of sewing, at least from my point of view. I am not sure it would work out any better, price wise. It would just be made in the USA instead of the UK.

Having said that, if I could get a made to measure Argyll made in the US at a comparable cost, I would be likely to save my pennies to do so. I sure am impressed by my first made to measure kilt by Matt.

Burnett's and Struth carry them. They don't say where they're made.Mine was made by a tailor in Montreal but I can't find anything online. Wasn't there a shop down east (in Canada) that did their own work?

I agree, Scotland seems to have a monopoly on kilt jackets. It would be nice to see some made locally and I, for one, would like to see one in PV or anything other than wool.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world... Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
