I am glad to read this, as I am ordering my first kilt from Stillwater this week, and haven't decided whether to order a thrifty, or go for the big bucks and get an economy.

It depends on what you want, and what you want to use it for. I bought a thrifty because the price is right, and I'm just going to wear it the same way I wear my jeans -- to go to class, to run around town, and so on. It doesn't look anything like a traditional kilt, and I think the economy is closer to that.

When financial aid for the fall disburses, I think I'm going to buy one from each of Stillwater's kilt lines, and, of course, I'll review them.

Just became a member of the forum and was glad to see the discussion on SWK. I had recently been informed of their existance and was quite interested in the products they sell. I have two kilts currently, one from the band I play with and the other is "My" personal one. I am quite supprised at the price as my "Personal" kilt was $400+ a few years ago. I hope they continue to do good. I think my closet will grow.

Your personal kilt is probably what we call a "tank," around here -- hand-sewn from Scottish wool. Jerry's kilts are acrylic, machine sewn, and, in the case of the Thrifty, of much shorter yardage. The Standard is more similar to yours, but is still artificial fabric.

A Stillwater kilt is comfortable, well constructed, and will give you great pleasure for the price -- but don't go expecting it to be the same as your tank, 'cause only a tank is a tank.

Now I have SWK Wool Heavyweight Kilt- Black Watch Tartan and for the money I like it just as much as my Geoffrey (Tailor) Buchanan. OK still two different animals but real nice.
Oh and have gotten compliments and the Question wearing both kilts?????

I have the same issue with my weathered MacKenzie!! I thought it would be here when I got home from work... But no.
