Obviously there are a mess of Prince Charlies in that picture. there are also a couple of guys with straight ties rather than bow ties. I assume the fellow on the right with the straight tie, no jacket just happened to have his jacket off for the picture.
Now, nobody is going to claim that a jacket with straight tie is as formal as a PC with a bow tie. that's a given.
But look two men to the right of P1M. There's a fellow there with a green Jacobite jacket and kilt hose with ghillies. P1M has another picture of that guy at another wedding...same outfit. I think the ghillies and hose dress up the outfit more than the boots....though the guy with the boots looks good, too, just not as formal.
But this is just my opinion.
If *I*...and this is just me...were going to do this, I'd get a really nice Jacobite shirt, not the usual Ren Faire wrinkled cotton one, and a really nice Jacobite jacket, probably with long sleeves like P1M's and that's how I'd go as "formal".
It's not likely, seeing as I have the Eton jacket and vest at home, but somehow with all this weightlifting I'm doing for the Heavy Athletics, that darned jacket is getting smaller.
