I love the effect when the dark color flashes out of the red back. Much better than the white stripe pleating, IMHO.

Very nice kilt, indeed! This is the one you made at Kilt Kamp, right? If so, then you know it's done right - with so many kiltmakers looking over your shoulder. It will serve you for years, maybe generations.

I bought some of that tartan also, but making it into a kilt is still back in the queue somewhere... and I still haven't decided how to pleat it (sett, stripe, MBP, rolled, barrel or pencil, etc. )

Awesome job! I'll have to revise my first opinion of that tartan after seeing that kilt.

Thanks everyone. This is my first (self-) handmade wool tank. As W2F mentioned, this is the kilt I started at Kilt Kamp in Troy (links to that thread when I get home from work).

Glen and Grant, you will definitely see this at a SOKS function. And if I can find the time, I'll have made flashes to match it.

Turpin, that was the effect I was trying for when I pleated it. It's good that it actually worked. And I plan on having that swatch in the mail to you tomorrow so I have a matching sporran. Or maybe two matching sporrans - one with the white stripe, and one with the triple red.

I try to avoid "me too" posts, but that's quite an accomplishment. A fine piece of work.

Man, that's a great looking kilt, Gary! You did a brilliant job and I love the pleating effect (and gosh, that's a whole bunch o'pleats!). Good on you, and I'm with the others in being in awe of you DIYers.

Is it sporting puppy slobber yet?

29 of 'em, and I had to do them right-handed. That was the hardest part of the whole thing.

Those are the pictures I'm not going to post - they are not for the faint of heart. Just kidding - my pups don't really slobber - they just shed.
