    How Long

Is it bad form to wear a kilt to the bottom of your knee cap ? Just didnt want to show too much leg or my long boxers

Most would say that it is.

The more authoritative fashionistas decree that the hem of the kilt should be at the top of the kneecap or even higher, at the middle of the kneecap at the lowest. Traditionalists describe kilts worn lower than the knee as "trollopy."

That being said, it often happens that younger guys wear contemporary kilts lower than the kneecap.

I guess it depends on whether you think of fashion as descriptive or prescriptive, what kind of kilt it is, and where you are wearing it.

    recommend shorter boxer or briefs.

After that, how long are we talking here. There's a range.

Put your camera at waist height, take a picture, let us see and then we can all be rude, ha, just kidding.

Just for practicality it is better at the top of the knee or just a little higher. I find the longer kilts below the knee get on my nerves hitting the back of my legs when I walk.

To my eyes, a kilt looks best at the top of the knee!!!

Much longer and it stops being a kilt and becomes a skirt or sarong.

The thing to avoid is looking like a trollop.

After all we are not talking about showing too much leg. Your kilt hose come to the bottom of the knee, and your kilt comes to the top of the knee.

¿ You got ugly knees ?

Trends come and go and bearing that in mind, people wear the kilt longer than they used to, say 50 years ago.Can I suggest that no lower than the centre of the knee cap should be the absolute lower limit and in my humble opinion wearing the kilt so that the bottom edge of the kilt brushes the top of the knee is just fine.

Some of the cheaper kilts come in standard sizes and I find the 24" length ones look too long on me as compared with my made to measure kilts at 22" or 23" which have a more traditional look. That said, wearing kilts to the bottom of the knee seems to be coming more into fashion and I am quite at ease wearing a longer kilt as it also provides more modesty on a windy day or when sitting.

We are talking about a traditional kilt right? If so it should be at the top of the knees to mid knee at the longest, I prefer wearing kilts to the top of the knee as it gives me the freedom of movement that a longer kilt may not provide. I also think if you are getting a garment made for you, any garment, then said garment should fit correctly, so with a kilt I go get measured for it and that seems to work out fine for me. If I were to wear a standard 24" length I would have to wear it far too high. Do not worry about showing too much leg, and like Archangel says get some shorter boxers.

    An inch above?

What's your opinion on the bottom of a kilt sitting an inch above the knee cap? Acceptable?
