    Dumfries and Galloway Pictures #2

As promised, here is a selection of pictures of my travels when I stayed at Ferintosh last week. The full set will be uploaded to my photo blog site at www.fotothing.com/cleftref.

    Burns statue complete with seagull!

Dumfries Mid Steple covered in scaffolding.

    Dumfries Trades Hall.

Dumfries War Memorial, alas not kilted, must be a Lowland regiment.

The Station Hotel - obviously Ferintosh is the best place to stay as it gives you the best view of this hotel in addition to the Drams, the breakfasts, and the wonderful company of Robertson and Emma!

Sweetheart Abbey near Dumfries, the first stop on what was a long an eventful day. There is the Wing in the car park!

    More to come!

Cymru, Yr Alban, Iwerddon, Cernyw, Ynys Manau a Lydaw am byth! Yng Nghiltiau Ynghyd!

Great to see the photos. Someone mentioned elsewhere about going kilted to a Burns night but here's the evidence the bard never wore a kilt (only a seagull by the look of it). My wife's grandfather fought with the King's Own Scottish Borderers in the 1914-18 war and he was kilted so I don't think it was anything to do with a Lowland regiment. He said the kilts were terrible, they just soaked up the rain and mud and it was like carrying a sack of coal around with you. They never dried out either so they got trench foot only a bit higher up (trench backside perhaps?)

Loads of people go kilted to a Burns Night but it's because he is Scotland's National Poet rather than was a kiltwearer himself.

As far as I know the only apron he wore was his Masonic one.

Seagulls love perching on statues, I have several pictures of them on Flora McDonald, Captain Cook, etc. etc.

    Great pictures, as usual.
    And Sweetheart Abbey looks beautiful.
I've only ever been there on very rainy days.

    Thanks

    McClef,

I really appreciate your and Cessna's posting your photos of your travels in Scotland, and elsewhere too. It's almost as good as going there.

I saw this in the BBC site today and remembered this post - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/s...nd/6949979.stm - problem solved perhaps?
