    Shipping and Handling???

Ok, so I'm 28 years old and I have never bought ANYTHING that had a shipping and handling charge. I understand what it is for and I completely agree in most cases. But if a few of you could shed some light on some questions i have I would greatly appreciate it.

I know that the shipping and handling will probably vary by the size of the object.

I think the charge may vary based on weight of the object...

I have no clue if it costs more shipping to send something 1000 miles or 100 miles.

I get paid tomorrow and I'll be placing an order with stillwater kilts, and probably with sport kilts too (although i might just order 2 from stillwater, i haven't decided yet ), and I wanted to know how much i can probably expect to pay in shipping and handling? Thanks!

My first order from Stillwater (kilt, flashes, sporran) was between 10 and 11 dollars for S&H. My latest order (kilt, flashes, kilt pin) was between 9 and 10 dollars.

The USPS has zones and weight to base the increase of shipping postage. Other carriers have their own methods. Retailers, wholesalers and other jobbers and middlemen have their proprietary sliding or fixed scales upon which they set their prices for handling. The bottom line for me is, What is the absolute total price after shipping/handling, sale tax and product price are all added up.
I don't want it to be greater than 10% of product price depending on exactly what is being shipped. I am willing to pay a great amount more than that if necessity or product value or demand warrants. I've more to say on this matter. But, for now, that's all I have to say about that.

Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

Jerry at SWK is very good about S&H. I bought a thrifty kilt and my total was $9.

I also placed a group order for 26 kilts, 24 flashings, and 15 kilt pins and my shipping was $39. So it's all relative.

Your best bet for lower shipping would be to order both from SWK. That way you're paying one person S&H and it cost just a tiny amount more to ship 2 items. Then you're not paying 2 different companies to ship you one item each, which would probably cost you more.

Most shipping companies nail you on the first pound then slides up as the weight increases.

To get a more accurate assessment, go to SWK and start going through the steps like you're checking out. A step or two before you would enter your card info, it will state the shipping for your stuff. Or, you can also just email Jerry with your zip and what you want. He'll gladly give you a shipping estimate.

Wow, thanks everyone for the great tips. Everyone had some good points to offer and I appreciate it. I'm going to be playing my order in about an hour. From what i hear Stillwater kilts normally ship pretty quickly also. So hopefully by Monday or Tuesday I'll have some new kilts to wear.

I already got a new one, "without tassels!", so I don't have to worry about them falling off anymore.

this is kind of a far away picture but i think it looks much better.
