I actually like that one a little better, but that's mainly because it's not the glaring computer colors.

Good one Mark Keeney! No shouting necessary. I guess kilts in a French/Spanish/Catholic celebration are as appropriate as any other attire, given what some wear (or don't wear). What do you need to do to get beads while kilted?

That's not really Mardi Gras, though -- that's for the tourists. Real Mardi Gras is:

Important point to be aware since the Scottish/Celtic clan structure is along the same lines. That's what makes it distinctly different than English and other European feudal systems. Those ones follow strictly bloodlines, like horse breeding. Celtic, and Acadian/Cajun is close enough, follow blood, association, and invitation (I came across the correct phrase the other day but I can't completely remember it or where I saw it.)

Of course, if you make your money on heraldry and geneology, you're not going to like the clan's tribal structure.

(And be very careful how you respond to this statement, we don't want the mods to earn their money.)

You know Paul, I hate to take a thread off topic, but you raise a couple of interesting points here that I'm not going to simply allow to stand as-is.

Panache presented you with his opinion, just as you have responded, aye? And somehow, he is wrong and you are right? Had Panache been responding as a moderator, you would have received that PM. And likely a warning to go along with it. Please try to remember the members of the forum staff are first and foremost members of this forum, the same as you.

In addition, there are reasons Panache was made a member of the moderating team, so you advising him on how to perform his duties is simply ludicrous.

...instead of quoting it and thus leaving a copy of it in the thread which I am unable to delete or correct.
A moment ago, you were defending your slur as a joke and suggesting people were taking it too seriously. Now, you're upset you could not delete or correct it?

As for the 'delicate sensibilities' displayed by our members, I would have thought you to be one of the last to mention it. How soon we forget, eh? (Well, perhaps I should remark on how quickly some forget.)

Once again, I want to remind everyone to take a moment to think about what you've written, before clicking that Submit Reply button.

    Family Friendly & Gala Water

To further what Mike said, I think it's a good idea to always keep in mind that this is supposed to be a family friendly forum, so a good rule of thumb is, "would I feel comfortable showing my mother or grandmother or young daughter this thread?" (I don't really want to hear the question, "Daddy, what's 'backdoor action,' as my little girl reads over my shoulder!)

I hate to say, but sometimes there are threads on here where that answer is no! I'm not trying to call anyone out in particular, but the reality is that sometimes the things we say among friends or in private are not always appropriate for a wider audience (i.e. this forum). Of course I have the same issue with a lot of television commercials these days, so maybe I'm suffering from early-onset curmudgeonitis. (No, I don't want to know why Ted is smiling!)

In any case, on the subject of tartan, if one is looking for a traditional and readily availabile tartan in those festive colors, why not try the Gala Water tartan?

Respectfully, using that logic, the Arcadians of New Brunswick and Quebec wouldn't wear tartan either, yet there are a number of regional and commemorative tartans for both provinces.

Not to mention the Nova Scotia tartan, the first district tartan in North America. My wife and MIL wore it before the Louisiana tartan.

Really a nice looking tartan. I didn't realize one existed for Louisiana. I'm glad I looked at this thread. I was born, raised and married in Louisiana.
