Those pics are great. I wonder how much they sold for at auction.

I for one like the jacket and waistcoat and would not hesitate to wear it with a kilt, I also noticed the placement of the kilt pin and wondered about it, as for the gillies they do appear to be in fact different than the gillies available now from rental places and alike, I would submit that he is in fact wearing those properly, it is just that they are a different style shoe than we are used to seeing now.

I have also seen pictures of the Duke and his brother, later King George VI, wearing plaids loosely draped across the shoulder (but neatly folded) and not attached by anything. More like a shepherd's plaid than anything we would wear formally today.

I heard the he had to abdicate because the King could not be married to a divorcee. Where does that leave Prince Charles?

Yes, he married an American divorcee and had to abdicate. The politics around the current Prince of Wales is most likely out-of-bounds.

McClef, do you mean it was held on by gravity, like a proper Roman toga?

First I would like to say please correct me if I am wrong.

    Mudd,

From what I have learned (Being from and in the USA), When Princess Diana passed away that left Price Charles set again for the throne, as her death made the matter of a divorce moot.

I did like the first picture, and looking at the gillies, they appear to be buckles where the laces are today.

Great picture! Looks like he left off the vest in favor of a turtleneck. It's difficult to tell, but is he wearing a belt in this picture?

    And this one:
The Prince of Wales (later the Duke of Windsor) and Prince Albert (later King George VI)
during a practice shooting session at Balmoral in 1910.
Prince Albert is seen checking the shots on a deer target
