What is the difference or reasons to own

Mostly I believe the difference is in the sleeve detail with an Argyle you have an upturned cuff with 3 buttons, the Braemar you don't
to illustrate

Argyll Jackets

Once you get into the "cut-out" styles of jackets, the differences get into cuffs and pocket flaps. Really, that's about it.
In the ones I have/will modify, I just leave them in the modern plain styles.
Some go through the effort of recreating the fancier style cuffs, but you don't HAVE to.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank You so much. As an avid motorcyclist I find the enthusiast forums a wealth of information. Now adding Piping to my fun activities I find this forum to be outstanding with all that it offers.

I have two made-to-measure Argylls from Lochcarron through Kathy's Kilts who did the logistics. I chose the Argyll over the other styles available for no other reason than that I liked that look best.

No rocket science or rules...my money, I like, I buy that one.

Waiting for the Earth to tilt its axis so its cool enough here to wear them.

Both jackets are nice, though I tend to prefer the less-common Braemar.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know where the names of these jackets comes from? I thought it might be because people in the towns they are named after wore that style but I know, for instance, that Crail is a small fishing village in Fife not notable for kilt-wearing. I know too that what I call a Montrose doublet others call a Kenmore and what they call a Montrose I know as a Military doublet. I have never seen a definitive list of the various styles and have come to the conclusion that each tailor makes up their own names for the jackets they make which adds to the confusion. Does anyone have a view on this jacket naming and whether there should be an "official" list of designs?
