Rab and I at Golden Gate Park

Went to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, to listen to some relatives perform at Jugfest, and I ran into an old friend.

We also visited the de Young Museum A note for tourists, even if you don't have time to visit the art collection, you can go to the top of the tower for free, and get a unique view of the west end of the city.

On the way out we ran into Miguel and some pals.

If I ever figure out how, I'll post a snippet of the jug band performance, lots of fun.

    Best regards,

    Jake

I LOVE Golden Gate Park. Last time we were up there we went to the De Young, and construction was going on, bigtime, on the Natural History museum and the Aquarium.

The Shakespeare Garden is on my list of top Five Places to Kiss in San Francisco. <i>just a little aside, there....

Thanks for the pictures. The Jugfest looks like fun - will be on the lookout for it in the future. Did you make it to the Ren Fair in the park that day? That new tower at the de Young looks like a Star Wars sandcrawler!

No, I'm holding out for the big ren fair at Casa de Fruta this year. The next event at the park that I'm definitely making is the free annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest, an incredible line up of performers.

    Best regards,

    Jake

AH Robbie Burns! I remember we had a marble statue of him in Adelaide, South Australia. Similar pose but with right hand forward, palm upturned, index finger extended. Quite often a Yo-Yo would be found hanging from the extended finger, and a can of beer balancing in the palm of his hand. Ah yes, our wild & reckless youth!

Just to totally Hijack this thread and inspire Panache to drag the F-H.C.A.G. up to the City and then write us a report....

Or perhaps monkey@arms and the fair Cynthia.... I present to you Alan H's list of the best 5 places to kiss in San Francisco, in order of kissability.

    1. The Wave Organ at the end of the jetty that sticks out past the Saint Francis and Golden Gate Yacht Clubs. This kiss must be done at night, preferably after midnight, but any time after sunset will do.

    2. The Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park. Preferably you should be standing at the far end by the brick wall, at about 2:00 in the afternoon, late spring through midsummer.

    3. The basement of the City Lights Bookstore, 261 Columbus Ave...famous for being the home of many of the "Beat" poets and writers of the late 50's and early 60's. Find the brick arches and kiss her socks off under one of them, next to a volume of poetry by Kenneth Rexroth. You should be seriously hyped on caffeine when you deliver this kiss.

    4. Under Queen Wilhelmina's Windmill in Golden Gate Park. It should be wickedly windy with fog streaming over you, so that you can't even see the top of the windmill...which is badly in need of restoration, BTW. When you''ve crossed her eyes and curled her hair....get in the car and drive to City Lights bookstore. Stop for coffee on Columbus Ave and then to curl her hair again, see #3, above.

5.) South Tower, Golden Gate Bridge on the BAY side, not the ocean side. Pick a gorgeous sunny day in the late summer....Like NOW! Walk out there with here. Stop at the South tower and look at the view. YOU know what to do by now.

    6. Honorable Mention: Go out to Angel Island. Make reservations ahead of time. Believe it or not, you can camp on the island. Go in the middle of the summer. You have the entire island to yourself after the last ferry leaves at 6:00. Walk down to the west side of the island and watch the sunset behind the bridge. Eat your picnic dinner together. As it gets dark, stroll along the Island circumference road, it's about a 90 minute walk to go all the way around. Enjoy the lights coming on. Pick your spot with the lights twinkling on the Bay, you can't pick a bad spot. It's almost impossible. You'rer sheltered from the wind on the side that faces Berkeley. Pop her a good one, so she'll remember it!.

We now return you to your regularly kilted programming.
