I wash my Stillwater kilts (economy and thrifty) in cold water, gentle cycle (actually, the machine I use has a "hand wash" cycle, so I use that), with Woolite. I then hang it to dry. On the Stillwater site, they say that all but the Heavyweight kilt, which is wool, are machine washable on the gentle cycle.

The tag inside my standard says wash gentle in cold water, and tumble dry low.

I've been looking into getting either a thrifty or a standard SWK. While it wouldn't seem to bad taking a standard to the dry cleaners or something, It just doesn't seem worth it for the thrifty. Do you guys hand wash your kilts or is there an easier way?
    First off

I throw my synthetic SWK's into the washer, gentle cycle, hang dry, seldom need to refresh the pleats! Synthetic fabric has come a long way!

Thanks for the welcome, and all of the replys. I had been lurking here for a little while, doing research before I bought my first Utilikilt.

So, it sounds easy to wash on gentle, and I already hang dry my UK, so now I really want to get a SWK.

Boy I could not agree more, I really enjoy both of my SWK kilts.

Unfortunately, they don't have any kilts my size, in the tartans I'm considering.

I would love to get a Hunting McLeod Thrifty, but they only have XXL in right now. I even was looking at the standard, and economy models, in a few other tartans, such as black watch, but none of them would fit me. I'm around a 34-36 in size I believe.

Do you know how often they restock their kilts? Can you request or order one not in stock?

I was just over there looking for my next kilt and they had the Standard Black Watch in 34 which is what I wear so you may want to go back and look again..

I'd keep checking back (or send them an e-mail). The sizes available change all the time, from what I've seen.

Though I did just get an email from Jerry, in response to a question, saying that they're seriously considering phasing out the economy kilts. So, if they happen to have your size, and you want one, now might be the time to buy it.
