Maybe there were twins or brothers involved. Two different people? It was a long story with no paragraphs, so I kept losing my place and not understanding what happened. I am glad you got the vehicle back.

Thanks to all who replied to this thread. The advice was helpful. Other than the insurance adjuster coming over tomorrow I consider this matter done with. As for the Jeep, outwardly, the damage is slight. But when you look underneath at the suspension parts, there are a lot of bent and broken parts. At retail prices, it might indeed be totaled. But if the frame isn't damaged, my son can repair it for about half of what it will cost to replace the vehicle. Wish us luck with the adjuster.

Generally insurance companies would total it and take the vehicle if they think they can make money back on reselling it for parts. If they offer to settle and take the vehicle but you think you can repair it tell the adjuster you want to keep it. You'll get a smaller settlement though, probably about half as much.

We have a process here in Ontario, and some other provinces. My sister-in-law got hit with it. Written off cars go onto a registry. They require a whole different inspection to be re-registered for the street again. It's very expensive.

    Watch out for that one.
