			Belted Plaid as Casual Attire?

I'm just wondering if anyone here ever wears a belted plaid as "regular dress?" I never have,
but when the weather gets cooler, I'm going to
 give it a try.

I personally find the entire idea of a great kilt in this day in age sort of "costume-like." I wear the kilt on a daily basis and feel that it is clothing not costume, therefore I stay away from the great kilt, also as I wear the kilt partly for comfort I would think the great kilt would be a tad cumbersome for daily wear. Just my opinion, but there you have it. Good luck with it if you do.

Yeah, I think it's just too much fabric. Plus, I find that a tank and a weather-appropriate jacket do just as well:

I wear a belted plaid, not every day. I hae the Feile - Mhor which is the large wrap, aboot 6 yards in length. There is however the Feile - Beag which is the short wrap, aboot 4 yards and where the idea for the modern short kilt came fae.Far cooler for hot days, naw that i hae seen many o them!

You'll probably get loads of weird looks, because most folks won't know what you are wearing.
I suggest reserving the belted plaid for festivals, highland games, reenactments, and the like.

Interesting question, Robin Hood. I've not crossed over to daily wear of the kilt. Since joining this forum, I've started wearing the kilt (Feileadh Beags) on Fridays (only, three so far). If I had to choose (which I don't) only one kilt to keep it would be my wool Feileadh Mhor in Malcolm plaid. So, exploring your question, I will wear it this Friday which will include a business day and a Kilt Night here in Fredericksburg.

Actually, I rather like the Celtic Croft's idea of the Philabeagh:
 http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/Kilts/phillabegs.html

...that seems pretty casual. I'd have to agree that a Great Kilt would be a lot of mass to schlep around.

So you are saying that you only wear the kilt once or twice a year? - No, no - you can't be saying that!

All of my kilts are tartan - (or to use your term -Belted plaid) - and that is what I wear. I am going on my second year without wearing pants! And I have been wearing the kilt as standard attire for close to 14 years.

I just remember the last time that I had on a pair of pants, as being close to two years ago - 16 September 2005, to be exact.

Casual, dressy, formal - the kilt fits all needs. I tend to, pretty much always, wear hose, flashes, belt and sporran, except for strenuous or really dirty work.

The kilt is comfortable, easy to wear, care for and does not get weird looks. I have been in many situations and many different countries, and everybody recognizes the kilt for what it is.

 Was that your question?

					Thanks McG.
Is there anything you need to do differently, or
be conscious of while wearing a belted plaid?

I'm also interested in what your fellow Scots
think of the belted plaid. Is there much
reverence for the ancient form of national
 dress?
