Lochcarron has designed Drumlanrig tartan that is very attractive.
The Drumlanrig tartan is available from my local kilt shop here in Hawick, Tyneside Tartans, who can arrange for their Edinburgh based lady kiltmaker to build a made to measure kilt - one to consider for the future perhaps.

He sounded like a decent man but typical - educated at Eton and Oxford. At least he lived in Scotland unlike a lot of the "absentee landlords" who just use Scotland as a playground. Was he anything to do with Michael Ancram? I know he is the son of one of these Scottish aristo families.

Michael Ancram is the son,and heir,of the Marquess of Lothian and therefore part of the Kerr family.

If I remember rightly the title of Lord Drumlanrig goes to the eldest son of the Marquis of Queensbury who is a Douglas.

buccleuch dies
Oh crumbs Trefor you will need a better man than me to explain the conection between the Douglas and Scott families! The late Duke of Buccleuch was also the Duke of Queensbury, where the Marquess of Queensbury bit fits in I dont really know. You are certainly correct to say that that the eldest son of the MARQUESS of Queensbury(a Douglas) used to be called the Earl of Drumlanrig .BUT I think things changed when, in about 1810, the two Dukedoms were held by one man(a Scott) and from then on the eldest son of the Duke of Buccleuch has held the courtesy title of Earl of Dalkieth.
As an interesting aside the origonal Duchess of Buccleuch was greated as such in her own right. Not as a courtessy title by being married to a Duke.

It was somewhat later than that as Lord Alfred Douglas's (he of Oscar Wilde fame) older brother was called Lord Drumlanrig and his father was the Marquess of Queensbury.
Having checked Wiki - the title is still going in the Queensbury line.
The Earl of Dalkeith is the title of the Buccleuch heir.

I think we are both right!! In 1810 the Duke of Buccleuch succeeded to the Dukedom of Queensbury thus seperating the Duke of Queensbury title from the Marquess of Queensbury title(dont ask me how or why) which, as you correctly say carried on down the Douglas line.Do you know if there is an Earl of Drumlanrig now?

According to Wiki the title of Earl of Drumlanrig and Sanquhar is a subsidiary title of the Dukedom within the Scottish Peerage, along with several others.
The highest title normally takes precedence but I would guess the full list of titles held by the late Duke could well be given at his funeral.
