Someone sent me this when it was posted back in January, and it was what got me onto this forum.

Historically, the haka is a challenge, usually before battle so a response is appropriate. Several years ago the Ireland Rugby Team linked arms and paced forward right into the All Blacks faces as they were doing the haka. Did not put them off, and New Zealand won!
