    Hospitals?....Heman?...Kilts in the hospital

I was in the local hospital today grabbin a coffe as it was close to my new domicile and I needed a caffeine fix. Whilst in line, a lady behind me started asking about the black utilikilt and what the occasion was that I was wearing a kilt at all.

"No reason, I just really like wearing a kilt. Got it a month ago and can't put it down."

"Are you affiliated with some sort of group or something?" she asked.

"Sort of, but I wear it because I like to." I replied.

She then makes a note to inform me.....

"It hangs nicely off of you."

"Thank you, and it holds a six pack" a few people behind us giggled at that.

I made mention to her that kilts make great Christmas gifts and she then told me her husband would never wear one. I retorted that you may be surprised at what a man would wear.

As I walked away from the counter with coffee in hand I heard another voice down the hall behind me..

    "*hmhhm* kilts."

I listened a little more closely and heard this lady in her late 40's say something very complimentary.

"..women like to see a man in a kilt. He-men wear kilts."

I turned around to see who was speaking about my unbifurcated self, and seen this lady as bald as could be ( I'm guessing chemotherapy) pushing her IV stand while talking to who looked like her 12 year old daughter/grand daughter. She didn't know I was stopped to see her and she then repeated,

    "He-men where kilts."

She then looked up and I made sure to say thank you to her. I was about 30 ft from her when I caught her saying all this and she gave me a big smile when I thanked her out loud for the great taste she had.

I made a few people smile by even wearing a kilt into a hospital, and left a smiley guy because a complete stranger who is going through chemo had taken the time to explain to her daughter what kind of man wears a kilt.

    Great, great day.

It really shook me to see that lady who was obviously not doing so good explain to a younger generation what a man is doing in a skirt.

Lads, I hope you all have this experience. And if you have, please let me hear about it.

    Cheers.

I wore my SWK Wallace to the hospital on the day of my knee surgery. I was such a snap to put on with my right leg in a massive brace-and-wrapping. I can imagine what a pain it would have been to try and pull shorts on over all that dressing.
The nurses all agreed that it should be mandatory for outpatients with leg surgery, and one nurse added with a smile "and for several other reasons as well."

HAHA! Yeah, nurses are good for a flirt. When my wife gave birth to our daughter, the older nurse lady was a real flirt. It was cute. I had no idea until my wife pointed it out to me. Goes to show how blind we men can be......

    My hospital experience was sad.
I was visiting my father in law, and I was kilted.
While I was in his room, an amputee kept going by and I could see from the corner of my eye that he was staring at me. He stopped by several times.

I didn't know what to say or what he was thinking. I still don't.

I find the best solution, for me, in that situation, is to smile, and say, "Hey, how're you doin' today?"

But then, I work in the hospital, and that gives people permission to talk to me, lets them know that I'm not too busy to hear their concerns.

This happened to me a couple of years ago when a neighbor at age 92 fell and was rushed to the hospital ER. I was able to go with her until some of her family arrived. I was Kilted of course and it was a rather busy day in the ER.

A little girl (about 5) arrived and was crying tons of tears, when she saw me she stopped crying and started whimpering to her mom and said that it must be a nice place because the Kilted guy smiled at her.
