If you are on the tall side you can buy a Velcro tie from a uniform catalog. They come in the solid colors that work well with most tartans, are made of polyester, and do not need to be tied, but have a full Windsor knot. I would look for police officer supply catalogs. If you have a choice of lengths get the regular length. To short with pants, but just right for a traditional cut kilt.
