i've been listening to his album for quite awhile now. To be sure, the album is alot more "pop" and produced than the youtube clip above.
I'm not sure I dig his take on this traditional tune, but I like his pop music quite a bit.
As far as good stuff coming out of Scotland goes.....my favorite has to be K.T. Tunstall.
The stuff she can do with just a guitar a sampler/looper blows my mind
check out this clip
kt's "black horse and cherry tree and tell me what you think.
Sounds like a whole band huh?

Wow, that was well put. I listen to all types of music and enjoy/dislike each song based on it's own merits. Regardless of the style or type of music, I especially like singers who put their emotions into the words they sing and frequently I will find myself liking a song only because of the feeling the singer puts into it.

I like Billy Holiday too ![Smile](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Pavarotti is an excellent example because he sang with such great passion. I can't understand a word of Italian but when he is singing Vesti la giubba in Pagliacci, I can feel his pain. There are quite a few foreign songs that I like just for the emotion put into the lyrics even if I don't know what they are saying.

It is impressive that the songs he writes are as good as they are, given his age. I'm looking forward to seeing how he develops as a singer, as well as a songwriter. I think he could be a consistently great singer but only time will tell.
It's okay if everyone doesn't like him. I respect that others like singers that I don't like. It is all our differences that make the world an interesting place in which to live.
I'll have to try a few more Nutini songs because I do see that he sings well and with emotion. The only thing I didn't care for was the "Tiny Tim" warbling I heard in the 2-3 songs I checked.

I stand corrected, Nervous Jock. They remain a figment of everyone's imagination, to my mind. I'd like to see them in person before I'll believe something so grand as the Tartan Army exists. :-)
I was shocked to hear two of Nutini's song's on commercials this weekend. "These Streets" and "New Shoes" were both on separate commercials for separate companies on Sunday.
"New Shoes" is in a Hilton Ad. Hilton posted the video of the commercial, an interview with Nutini and other stuff here: http://www.hiltonjourneys.com/index.html?id=50#video-50
While not necessarily indicative of talent, it is an impressive sign of commercial success (no pun intended), especially for a debut album. I'm stunned that he got Hilton. They aren't exactly known for avant garde or alternative music in their commercials.
I think "These Streets" was for a bank or something.

I know that they have become a little commercial, but I do love the new Snow Patrol album. Though I wish Travis would bring out some new material. I bought their greatest hits album a few months ago and it has had a ton of play in my house (it, snow patrol, and David Gray are pretty much all I listen to these days)
And just to bring it back to kilts, I have been spinning the Travis and Snow Patrol discs while sewing my new kilt. (MacNeil of Barra 8 yard to answer your next question )
