That's a bunch of bull ! ! Self-consciousness is a myth perpetrated by the weak willed.

If you are worried what other people will think about you wearing the kilt, then there is a deeper problem. The hard answer to this problem is simple - don't wear the kilt!

It does not matter what they are thinking, It only matters that they are thinking about you. I have gotten a few snide remarks, and I answer , "Thanks for thinking about me". Usually shuts them up right away.

I have been wearing my kilt (mostly on weekends) for about a year now, When i first wore it I was nervous as hell but quickly became accustomed to wearing it and came to quite enjoy it. Now it feels like i wear it too much and people are tired of seeing me in it...I have even started noticing the "snickers" and looks and now I am starting to feel self concious about it again....

What the heck is up with that? Anyone else expericence this?????

I just have to ask.......on the occasions that you feel self conscious--were you stoned or on any dope that may have caused it---also, are you nervous and timid in other types of situations??? the reason I bring this up is that you said you were nervous at first--then you weren't--and now you are noticing peoples reactions--it's important to feel confident when wearing your kilt (mine actually makes me feel MORE confident) you won't see Pacific Islanders looking uncomfortable in a sarong--or Africans looking uncomfortable in a dashiki because it's a traditional and cultural thing with them--same as the kilt is with me--I wear mine as a sign of cultural pride, and if somebody wants to laugh it's because they have no culture or have forgotten where they came from and the trials and tribulations their ancestors went through to come to America!!! be the bigger person and wear your kilt with pride and to hell with the small minded idiots!!!!!

One needs several (read 'many') Kilts. People at my supermarket like to guess which one I'll wear today. They even have favorites! After all, wearing a powder blue Tux each day would get a bit dreary to others; They's wonder if you ever washed it, or did you sleep in it etc.
Stilwater has some quite presentable Thrifty Kilts - if you're strapped for cash, about $30.00 each. "Standards" are about $80.00 . that would give you variety until/if you want to spend a fortune later for a Woolen "Tank" .
