Congratulations--Let me say unless you are sure your outfit is really good, go with the suit--Remember you will have to look at the photo's from the event for the rest of your life.

Well it looks like you have everything well in hand. My only suggestion was going to be that you could try to rent the items you don't have for a formal outfit for the night. Not having to rent the kilt should reduce the cost.
I'm looking forward to seeing your final outfit. I defnitely need to learn how to use a needle and thread.

Ta Da!
Ok here's what you have all been waiting for. The one day BERSERK design semi-formal project (now you know why I call myself BerserkBishop).
The sporran, not quite done. I am wearing the finished product in the following pictures.

The jacket before I shortened it.

And finally here I am back at my house after the event. Unfortunately no family or friends were able to make it to the event to take pics as I had misinformed them on the time until the day before.

Full length

(From the angle of the pic it looks like my kilt was too low or my hose to high but I assure you I was showing plenty of knee!)
I'm not one to toot my own horn so-to-speak, but I think it turned out pretty nicely for a day and a half's work. Not all as perfect but the college I go to is small and I was one of the best dressed there IMHO. I got compliments during the entire event and many curious inquiry's as to clan, tartan, etc. At the reception I was asked by the officers to get a photo with them as I was the first in the chapter to be inducted in a kilt. Over all it was a great time and I am very glad that I wore my kilt. I spent the afternoon downtown in my kilt as well and had a lovely time. Tell me what you think. Comments, concerns, and criticism all welcome!

I am duly impressed!
As I am sure you discovered the only problem with shortening regular jackets is the pockets end up too low, but in that colour they look to not be too noticeable, but you look great! I would have bet against you pulling it off, but I am very happy to eat crow on this one.
So what's your next trick...make a kilt over lunch?

Crikey..... I'm impressed!
It's amazing what one can accomplish with the right amount of encouragement and the incentive was there to succeed
Congratulations.

Great work, you look terrific.
I think this tip came from Hamish: set the camera about waist height, and it gives a better view. If it's looking downward, it always looks as though the kilt is too long; because the knee is behind the hem.
