3D modeling is right up my alley. I am a Mechanical engineer, we use a process called Rapid prototyping. It involves making a 3D model, and sending it to a 3D printer. The printer is usually offsite so it is usually made out of urethane, wax, or some other plastic. We then can use the rapid prototype to make a mold and pour.
Voila, you have a finished product... ok, not so easy and cheap but might be worth looking into.
