Regimental Saturday
I know that to some of you kilted brothers going "regimental" is nothing unusual, but for us "newbies", it takes some working up to. My sister-in-law was visiting this weekend so we spent all day Saturday shopping and just hanging out. I decided that I needed to get over my trepidation about going "regimental" in public, so I whipped off the undies just before leaving the house (in private, of course!). I wore a khaki short sleeve shirt, my Gordon tartan, belt, day sporran, wheat colored hose, Gordon flashes, and my suede hiking shoes. A great casual look. I had nothing but positive comments from people who had the nerve to say something to me. There were plenty of looks from people who looked away as soon as our eyes met, but those who did say something were absolutely effusive about how nice it looked. One woman stated how nice it was to see a man in a kilt and how she wished she'd see them more often. Another asked if I played the pipes, to which I replied, "No, but I'm thinking of learning". A saleslady in one of the shops asked if I were Scotch......I said "No, I just enjoy wearing a kilt". She was amazed at the honesty of my answer and thought it was great that I was wearing something unusual simply because I like it. I digress, my point in all this was that I soon forgot I was "regimental" and it felt quite normal. Another great kilted day!
Cheers!

Yesterday was pretty windy. I got out of the car at church and was concentrating on shutting my cell off. I realized that I was in the middle of a "Monroe" moment. Fortunately I was between two cars (probably that funnelled and amplified the wind) and concealed from the church windows. I'm not sure what the traffic side saw.
Something to think about.

Us being civvies, there is no hard and fast rule that you must be regimental. It is mearly a matter of personal choice. If this is for you, great. If this isn't, that's just fine. Nobody here is going to look down on somebody (or up for that matter) for choosing an extra level of modesty. If you decide that yes you shall do this bit for "freedom" then here is my code:
If they ask, don't tell.
If they ask to see, don't show.
The rest is up to you. Just stick to the code.

I been going regimental since I been in a kilt (about a month now) and it feels normal to me. But like ccga3359 wrote, its a personal choice. As far as the question, nope have not been asked that yet. but give it time Im still new the kilt nation. did have a lady in Wisconsin yell from her car" Nice Kilt, hope your're wearing underwear underneath! LOL

You should have said that you were not Scotch or Whiskey or any other drink. We know she meant Scot, but some don't say it correctly. haha
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!

The first time or two I wore a kilt, i kept my undies on. then my fiancee told me the had to go, because depending on how I moved and where the kilt landed on my thigh she could see them, and that was not ok lol
So Ive been regimental ever since. Be careful though! Even though your kilt hangs to your knee, its still easy to expose yourself, and in certain instances that can be awkward. I bent down to grab something off the ground one time, I wasnt paying attention and fully exposed what was under the kilt to one of my moms lady friends one afternoon. I didnt know she was looking my way until she gasped, I looked up and she quickly turned her head. I was kilt checked at a party one night by a drunk lady, I thought it was funny, but my fiancee didnt, and it wasnt easy keeping her from attaching the offender lol and perhaps the best time was when I was visiting my sister at work one day, when one of her customers started to ask the "question" when her friend stopped her. But, determined to get the answer, I kept catching her trying all the old tricks guys use to look up a girls skirt. She dropped something on the floor and tried to get a look up there, and so on. lol
watch out for the ladies, theyre worse than us guys lol

Ha, great stories. When I was piping a function a few years ago, I was wearing a dublet, belt and plaid and was leaning into my wifes mini-van getting my pipes out and the wind came under the van and blew the bottom of my kilt up to the center of my back. I immediately stood straight up and pushed the kilt down. I looked around to check if anyone had caught it and discovered my Sergeant Major and his family coming up the road towards me. He never said anything about it, neither did I. I still wonder now and then though.......

Hey RB,
Might as well...even if you do wear something under your kilts you're gonna get accused of not wearing anything anyway. Twice have been accused of "exposure" when it is just plain anatomically impossible. I think prissy ladies mistake my chubby thighs for "the boys" when I'm seated. So if you're gonna be accused of being free, may as well enjoy the freedom.
I had a variation of the Scotch thing this weekend too. Was wearing my Scott tartan kilt. A lady went on about her times in Scotland then asked what tartan my kilt was. Told her the Scott tartan. She said, no - what Scot tartan. I said Scott...she didn't realize there was a Clan Scott too. Got her squared away. Scot is a nationality. Scott is a clan.
And...I was regimental when I strolled over an updraft grate in downtown Albuquerque a couple years ago. I lost my vision when the Utilikilt Survivor II wound up in my face. Was in front of a restaurant...not much I could do but keep on walking.
You'll learn to sail your kilts in the wind.

Whatever is under your kilt, you can still wear it with pride. Don't let other people's expectations dictate what you wear, though.

I nearly always am regimental, however, if htere is a chance that this could cause a problem--like when I wear the kilt to school--I wear very small undies to make sure the privates are covered. Someone would have to really mean to see something to see them (they're practically bikini drawers), so if they want to see that, let 'em.
But on the other side, when out in public, I prefer the comfort, freedom, and plain tradition of the regimental requirements of the regiments. And to my knowledge, on one jackass who lifted my kilt from the rear when my back was turned ever got a look. (He almost got something else, but that's another story.)
It really is a matter of personal taste. do as you please, but I would certainly avoid boxers since I don't want to be showing my underwear either.
