Dang! Such a comfie way to sit through lectures too.

And so rude to the memory of the Irish Brigade that switched sides in the Mexican War to fight for Mexico.

Know this is a Los Estados Unidos situation but read Jerry Griffin's adventures years ago http://www.utilikilts.com/news/archi...4-11/index.htm

And what is SOOOO ironic is how the Mexican "formal" shirt the guayabera has struggled to be accepted in the U.S. business world instead of a suit. And when its a problem the Hispanic folks complain we just don't understand their culture....and they're right.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...051300497.html

Hopefully Jay Fernandez example of cultural insensitivity towards guayaberas will help if you decide to appeal - if there is any such process.

You can still kilt up on your free time. Who knows, maybe common sense will spread.

    Hang in.

Well here in mexico, the natives/indian tribes are not so open and also are not sou proud of there heritage, and it's not very common for them to wear their traditional outfit out of their comunitys so i gues that in my school they dont have a native dress code.

Plus i live in very conservative city.

Somewhere there's a beer who's logo is a Mexican in a sombrero with a tartan sarape'.

And there's this song to give you strength.

Tile :Enter The Haggis - The Mexican Scotsman
    This is lyrics from www.lyrics007.com

    Jose, get your bagpipes
And head down to the square
    Seranade the passers-bye
And you'll make some money there

    Jose came to this country
    Looking for a chance
    To make some decent money
To buy a pair of pants
    But we were in recession
And jobs were far and few
    So jose took his bagpipes
And did what he had to do

Dressed in his Sombrero and Kilt
    With his bagpipes and maracas
    Playing away for his supper
    Boiled haggis with nachos

One day while he was basking
A pretty young lassie came by
She said "Jose, take s troll with me"
Says Jose, "Si! Si! Och' 'Aye!"
    They spent the day together
Then she took him to a dance
    Well, Jose moved most gracefully
    'Cause he wasn't wearing pants

And he was born in Mexico City
    Educated in Scotland
In sandals and bright tartan pancho
Jose's fashion statement was not planned

But when Jose went to the men's room
There was trouble close at hand
Cause in came Bob, the sailor man
The roughest man in the land
    Says Bob, "You're lookin' pretty
    In your little tartan dress
Now you'd best be off to the ladies room
'fore I pummels you into a mess"

Now you could have heard a pin drop
    As Jose tongued around
His scottish-mexican blood began to boil
And it made this kind of sound...

    <Insert raging Mexican Pipes>

And when it all was over
Sailor Bob lay on the floor
He looked the saddest sorry wreck
    Ever blown a shore
Now, the sailors keep a lookout
    Whenever they're on the land
For they knows well that they doesn't mess
    With a Scottish Mexican man!

Neither kilts nor pipes are entirely unknown in Mexico. http://bandadegaitas.com.mx/home.htm

    Aye,

Tell them you're a Scottish Mariachi

Get a Prince of Wales Tartan kilt from USA Kilts and tell them its the Mexican National Tartan in the colors of their flag.

Amazing a college would be so culturally insensitive. Guessing if you rooted around you could find a college policy on cultural diversity.

And so rude to the memory of the Irish Brigade that switched sides in the Mexican War to fight for Mexico.
    Ron,

It wasn't a brigade -- individual deserters, some of whom were Irish, were formed into the Battalion de San Patricio -- the St. Patrick's Battalion during the Mexican-American War. Ironically, many of its members were foreigners living in Mexico who were pressed into service. Robert Miller's history of the Battalion, Shamrock & Sword does a lot to dispel the many myths on both sides of the border about the San Patricios.

    Regards,

    Todd
