California Wild Fires

Reading and seeing all the news about the fires out there I was wondering if it as affected anybody here. Guess I am just a little concerned for those folks.

It hasn't affected me, but it did affect the teacher that I work with. He lives in Saugus, near the Magic fire, and he actually had to evacuate his house. They put that part of the fire out, and now he's back at home and back at work.

It's still so new into the situation, that I wonder if anyone effected has had the opportunity--or the means--to access this site. So let's keep them all in mind and prayer.

Those who have indeed lost their homes seem to have lost most of their belongings. If any of them are kiltwearers, I wouldn't be surprised if their kilts went up in smoke. Any thought about a donate-a-kilt network?

A couple of my Parishioners were in Aqua Dulce & Santa Clarita fires, but it turned away at the last minute.
I live in San Fernando Valley, so only got ash & smokey air.
San Diego Area seems to be getting the worst of it. Homes going up in the hundreds. It's a total disaster.

I have several family members who live in El Cajon, Escondido and San Marcos (all in the San Diego area). They had to leave their homes but have now returned. In some cases the fires came very close but their homes survived until the next fire season.

Glad to hear that, my main worry is that everybody is safe personal possesions can be replaced your family and you can not so I will say a prayer for all out there.

I left for Savannah on Saturday just at the beginning of it all. The fire came within blocks of my apt (with 2 of my 4 kilts inside).

I work in Rancho Bernardo and I know 4 people who have lost their homes. Another had significant damage to his house (deck and dining room doors...why the fire didn't take the rest of the house is anybody's guess) and lost a few more things to looters.

As of now, everyone is returning to their homes. Or what's left of them.

I didn't worry so much about my kilts, of course. I had some family photos that are more than 100 years old. Those matter more than anything else in the apt as far as I'm concerned.

James MacMillian lives in the San Diego area but is currently on a cruise ship to Panama. I hope he isn't affected. No doubt this is quite a tense vacation for him.

Given where he lives...I'm fairly certain his home is fine. Quite a few were evacuating toward that area.

I was unaware until yesterday the extent of the fires in So Cal. I've been very caught up in both work and personal matters lately to the point that I've not been up on the news. I thought about James being on a cruise and maybe very unaware of what is going on in San Diego. Trust me, you don't get a daily paper on a cruise ship (except for the next shore excursions) and you don't burn your internet minutes to stream video from CNN. Since I was thinking about him I looked up a map; Oceanside is just south of Camp Pendleton but I don't know where the Pendleton fire exactly is.

My experience with cruises says that since the ship is most likely docking in San Diego or Long Beach that on the last day of the cruise the Captain will make an announcement.

I just hope that all the people are OK and there are no more casualties from this.
