As this was the first kilt I bought I really did not know the difference when I bought it. I knew I could not get wool. I bought the kilt off e-bay for a very good price. I bought the kilt before I found this forum. I bought it for price only and got lucky that the quality was good also. If I had it to do again I would have picked a different tartan but not a different kilt.

    Angry Blazing Kilts

You guys who've bought cheap acrylic kilts from dealers who source in Asia (usually Pakistan), take great care that you don't let a naked flame anywhere near them - they go up in flames extremely quickly and drip molten acrylic everywhere. If you're buying them for youngsters - DON'T!
The authorities back here in Scotland are looking at the problem as a matter of urgency but whatever the outcome, it won't stop them being sold outside Scotland so if you're offered a cheap kilt - ask where it came from, what it's made of and IS IT FLAMMABLE.

    Tartanman,

As you are new here, may I welcome to X Marks the Scot. If you have had an opportunity to look through our site you may have noticed that there have already been one or two threads regarding this concern.

Here is one reviewing different materials and how they are effected by flame by our own member Wompet:

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=31698

Our membership are pretty savy about both materials and points of origin for various kilt makers. If you have further information or personal experiences you would like to share please feel free to add it to the appropriate thread.

Please keep in mind that we have a varied membership who enjoy many different types of kilts and the need to be respectful to all.

    Respectfully

    Jamie
