    Kilted Highland Hiking

My buddy Mark Ferguson and I went for a wee "hillwalk" and camping trip last weekend in Grayson Highlands (Southwest Virginia). Here are some pics:

Great pics! Looks like you had a great time, especially with that 16 year old scotch! I'm just wondering if you found wearing a sporran comfortable while hiking.

    Looking good.
I'm planning to yomp up Ben Nevis next year, and now I have a kilt, its probably worth me trying it out to compare against my hiking pants.

Good question! Here's how I wear the sporran when hiking (off to the side a bit). I'll go a few miles w/ it on the left thigh, then a few w/ it on the right thigh. Works just fine! And yes, the Lagavulin was a nice way to finish the day:

There's NO comparison! I've hiked and backpacked for years. Used to get "rubbed the wrong way" in all manner of shorts, pants, technical climbing pants, etc. Tried patagonia capilene briefs/boxers which worked okay, but Regimental in a kilt is the absolute best solution. Hell, it worked for my ancestors! 1 modern convenience: BodyGlide. It looks like a stick of deodorant, but is a lube I used when running marathons/triathlons. A few rubs on the inner thighs, and ahem, other sensitive nether regions works wonders. I know, I know -- TMI. Just trying to help a brutha out!

Thanks, good to know. And thanks for the info about Bodyglide. I've heard it endorsed elsewhere, but it's always good to hear that it's helped in a specific situation like that. One last question, which tartan are you wearing? It looks really good!

I've used it and it's great - particularly in warm weather when big guys like me tend to get chafing.
