    hair on goat hides

I just came a cross a site that sells hair on goat hides at a very reasonable price.($10.00-$12.00 ea.)
They have them with the hair natural and also sheared and dyed.
I haven't bought any but they look good and might make an unusual dress sporran.

    they also carry other leathers

just scroll down and take a look

I believe that I have mentioned this in another thread, but I would suggest caution when buying animal hides from unknown sources.

A local artist imported a quantity of hides for use in his art. The hides were contaminated with anthrax spores, which left him severely ill to the point of death. Also, the entire apartment building where he had his studio had to be evacuated and decontaminated.

This has also happened, lesser dramatically, with hides from Latin America.

This place is a antique trunk restorer in Maine
so I assume that his hides would be OK

Brettun's Village is located up in Lewiston, ME. It's about 2 hours away from where I live here in Kittery. I've been meaning to go there one day... they seem to have quite a few good deals on their site.

I made this sporran out of one of their Asian buffalo calf hides. The hair is only about 1/4 inche long, so it works well for a Rob Roy style. It came out very nicely. The shininess is the hair reflecting the light. Brettuns doesn't charge shipping either.

I may just have to send them some money soon. Or find the time to drive up and have a look around. That looks fantastic.
