Is it Alexis Malcolm that has the Hillwalker tartan kilts with pockets?

And, meantime, non-tartan take a look at Utilikilts Mocker - a Dockers type kilt if there ever was one. Very preppy.

I'd suggest a 4 yard box pleated kilt in the Armstrong tartan. You can get a kilt made from the highest quality heavy weight wool, but it's still lighter than a "tank" and very comfortable to wear. Here's a pic of my Armstrong box pelated kilt:

Cost would be $350. Right now I have about a 5 month wait for order completion (trying my best to get that down, but there are only so many hours in the day!).

If you wanted something in a hurry, we can have a "casual" kilt made for you. You can still get really nice heavy weight wool for only $345. But this will be knife pleated, made from 4 yards of cloth, and machine sewn. It will have all the comfort benefits of a 4 yard kilt, but the construction is not quite as nice and neat as the box pleated kilts, which I hand sew. The turn around time on one of these is usually 2 months, though there is a rush option if you need it faster.

Here's a pic of one in the ancient Armstrong tartan:

Not endorsing this, but you can find Anderson tartan kilts on E-bay
    (for example http://cgi.ebay.com/MENS-KILTS-17-TA...QQcmdZViewItem )
They claim to be 16 oz PV (which I find a little hard to believe), but there it is. This might be the Gold Bros as well, I don't know.
