I would also suggest you try Freedom Kilts Steve Ashton has a casual kilt that he designed specifically for what you are talking about. It comes complete with slash side pockets.

Well, yes, my Casual Model has been called the "Dockers" of kilts. 1" pleat reveal, with a pair of side slash pockets, a pair of rear welt pockets and an under-apron pocket is about the closest you can get to slacks. That is if you can get around the idea that "Dockers" fabric is a solid color, Poly/Cotton.

The problem is making a machine washable kilt in the Armstrong Tartan. I have checked my sources and it seems that Tartan is only available in Wool. That means dry clean or hand wash.

And I'm afraid that a custom made kilt, by anyone, is outside the price range you seem to be looking at. That leaves you with a mass produced kilt made from an Acrylic fabric. No pockets. And in some other Tartan.

    Good luck in your search.

    I wear the kilt because:

    Thanks to all

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I especially appreciate those who took the time to respond to the details. Matt and Steve, as I buy more kilts, I will have to work with each of you at some point.

I knew it would be hard to find what I was after, if not impossible. The combination of tartan, budgetary restraints, and desired quality would be hard to find.

Oh, to have hit the lottery...but then, one would have to buy lottery tickets first...
