Amerikilt
My first kilt was an Amerikilt, olive green. Unless you are wearing it straight from the ironing board, making sure not to sit down at all, it looks like a wrinkled mess. Do not forget the raw stitched hem. My wife uses it as a reason not to buy kilts as she said that she would never get caught in a skirt with a such a rudly sewn hem line.
My home-made corduroy and the home made kilt I got from MOWGLI are my favorites for every day use. The both wash very well and come out of the dryer nearly wrinkle fre. I am making a couple of new corduroys soon.

I'd have to say my "8 yard, handsewn" kilt from Clansman Knitwear. There are several places on it that it is obviously machine sewn and it is not the 8 yards expected. BUT, it is in the correct Livingston tartan. Oh well, I will still wear it until I have the $$ to get it replaced which will be after a few other kilts are added to the closet.

My worst is a Sportkilt that I purchased for $80 at the Scottish Games. It is a cotton twill job in a brown digital camo. What a waste of fabric and money. The pleats (if you could call them that) are about 1 inch. I tried pressing them down but that was a total waste of time. It is more of a camo skirt.. at best.

Interesting thread so far. I am noticing a pattern: not too many complaints about wool kilts. But, get another fabric in there and...look out!
Perhaps some of the kiltmakers on this forum would like to chime in? Are there ways of making a non-wool kilt that wont irritate the wearer because of narrow pleats, unreliable stitching, etc?
That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.

Yes... Make it with the same care and attention to detail you'd give a wool kilt!

Quite.
Which is why USA semi-trads are so popular on this forum. Made in PVC but carefully hand made.

If the label says "Kilt" run in terror!

I detailed a bad couple of experiences in this thread a while ago. Lesson Learned.

Notice the rest of that tag...
"DESIGNED in Scotland
Authentic Woven tartan"
And the other tag:
"100% Acrylic / wool"
That's a Pakistani "Gold Brothers Special". That's the "tartan Tat" that is on the Royal Mile.

"100% Acrylic Wool"???? Does that come from acrylic sheep? Is that an endangered breed from the Shetlands, perhaps?
Or is this like saying "genuine imitation crab meat" (made from real imitation crabs)?

I don't know what the idea of putting the word “wool” in does other than for deception!
Jerry at SWK sells acrylic, but he never, but never says that they are wool. His low-end kilts are very useful for low-end kilt wearing.
