    A Kilt for my Dad

The lovely Flame-Haired Celic Amazon Goddess and I decide to get my father a kilted outfit for Christmas so he could attend our upcoming Nor Cal Rabble Burns' Night Supper. To make this affordable we decided to go to Stillwater for the kilt and accessories and that my talented wife would convert a sportcoat into a kilt jacket.

The F-H.C.A.G. detailed her tweed jacket conversion for a proper jacket for him here:

My Dad's side of the family seems devoid of Scots, but there is an Irish line so I went with a SWK standard in the Irish National. Because my Dad is a bit shorter than I, a custom length Stillwater was ordered. It took a couple of months but Jerry got it to us before Christmas with plenty of time to spare along with hose, flashes, belt, and sporran belt. I decided to give him my trusty SWK braided sporran that has served me well for the last year (and gives me an excuse to get another sporran )

My Dad's Chorale Group was having their Christmas Concert this past Saturday so we gave him his Christmas Gift Early after the show

By the by, he didn't have proper dress shoes which is why he donned the hiking boots ("hose scrunched down" as required) for the picture. We didn't get him a kilt pin because I have it from very reliable sources that Santa is working on it.

Much Thanks to Jerry at Stillwater! The kilt fits well. Dad will just have to get used to wearing one ( and keeping his sporran straight!) He is looking forward to Burns' Night and just might join us at the December Kilt Night. Who knows? Maybe I can get him to join XMTS.

Here's one last picture of me and my beloved (and very talented) F-H.C.A.G. from the after concert party.

    Cheers

What a great way to pass on the tradition, going back instead of forward. Hope he enjoys it for many years to come.

Did your dad see this sort of thing coming? He looks good in his kilt, and happy to boot! The '08 Burns Supper will allow him to shine, too.

(How's your mom taking this turn of events?)

He knew because we had to measure him. He and a few of his friends are looking forward to the Burns' Night.

That's very nice. Glad you had fun, and keep him kilting.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Really good pictures, Jamie. Your dad looks really pleased to be wearing his new kilt. Three generations now kilted - wow!

The expression on your father's face is priceless. I'd love to be able to get my pa into a kilt!
